Johnny Damon comes out swinging for Donald Trump
“Remember when the 2004 Red Sox proclaimed themselves “idiots”? Well, one of the original nitwits has suited up for Donald Trump. At a campaign event this week in Florida, Johnny Damon and his wife, Michelle, were in the front row waving a “Make America Great Again” poster and chanting “build that wall.”
(It’s worth noting that Damon’s mother, Yome, is an immigrant from Thailand.)
Speaking to the crowd, the former Red Sox centerfielder said: “My dad was a military veteran. He spent 20 years and 20 days in the Army. We took care of our veterans before. We have to do it again.”
Damon, who was never known as a terribly deep thinker during his playing days, said he’s backing the Republican presidential candidate because “[Trump] likes winners. He likes to win. He likes everything to be great, not just for him, but for everybody.”
Damon, who got to know Trump while appearing on “Celebrity Apprentice” in 2015, wasn’t done. “The more money that’s in your pocket, the better you’re going to be for yourself, your community,” he said. “You can help whoever you want, but we need Donald Trump in the office. He’s a great man.”
Other current and former jocks who’ve endorsed Trump include Curt Schilling, Mike Tyson, Bobby Knight, and Jack Nicklaus.
