President Obama has spoken to Iranian President Rouhani by phone about the country’s nuclear program.
It’s the first time a U.S. president has spoken to an Iranian president since 1979, when President Carter set the pattern for U.S.-Iran relations.
Obama had a lot to say about his phone call:
“While there will surely be important obstacles to moving forward and success is by no means guaranteed, I believe we can reach a comprehensive solution.
“I’ve directed Secretary Kerry to continue pursuing this diplomatic effort with the Iranian government. We had constructive discussions yesterday in New York with our partners, the European Union, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, and China, together with the Iranian foreign minister, and going forward, President Rouhani and I have directed our teams to continue working expeditiously in corporation with the P-5 plus one to pursue an agreement. And throughout this process we will stay in close touch with our friends and allies in the region, including Israel.
“Now we are mindful of all the challenges ahead. The very fact that this was the first communication between an American and Iranian president since 1979 underscores the deep mistrust between our countries.”
So all of a sudden there’s a lot of activity on the foreign relations front because Iranian leaders for the first time in decades showed a little willingness to talk and possibly even compromise. For that opening, Obama is willing to reach across the globe and overlook the “deep mistrust” between us and Iran.
So what does that say when the same U.S. president, Mr. Obama, turns around and refuses to negotiate with Republican “extremists” over the looming government shutdown and efforts to defund Obamacare?
It says several things. First is that Obama continues to move our foreign policy toward a system that coddles Muslim countries, particularly those that have funded terror against us and Israel.
Also, it says that Obama’s sworn enemies continue to include anyone who politically or philosophically opposes the implementation of Obamacare, the biggest socialist power grab in decades.
His stubborn refusal to talk to Republicans, who have always expressed willingness to talk and negotiate on any topic, also proves that he is not at all serious about preventing the government shutdown, he just wants his “signature achievement” to go online and hobble the entire country, and he wants to blame Republicans.
Mostly it shows that Obama remains the self-centered, manipulative brat he’s always been, with no intention of putting the country’s actual needs ahead of his own personal gain.
Part of the current “Republicans are terrorist” party line may also be revenge because it was conservatives who laughed hardest when Obama tried to claim credit for Russian President Vladimir Putin persuading Syria to surrender its chemical weapons.
This White House is so childish in its mindset that it’s a wonder Obama doesn’t just resort to calling conservatives names, like on a schoolyard playground.
Oh wait, he does do that.
