Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic leader in the House of Representatives, said on Tuesday she believes Congress will support a resolution authorizing the use of U.S. military force against Syria.
Pelosi attended a meeting with President Barack Obama and congressional leaders at the White House.
She told reporters after the meeting that the United States had to respond to the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
Boehner: I Support The President’s Call For Action on Syria
Speaking briefly to reporters after a meeting at the White House, Speaker of the House John Boehner said he supports President Obama’s “call for action” on Syria.
Boehner stressed the United States can and will show the world that can send a strong message against the use of chemical weapons and said the United States is in talks with allies about how to move forward.
House Minority Leader Nancy echoed Boehner’s statement while offering political cover for President Obama.
“Weapons of mass destruction, deterring their use, is a pillar of our national security,” Pelosi said. “He [Assad] crossed the line…..President Obama didn’t draw the red line, humanity did.”
Pelosi said the discussion with Obama was about a quick and targeted strike. She also said waiting on the United Nations, from a humanitarian perspective, is “a luxury we cannot afford.”
UPDATE: Cantor too.
