Pence told Pennsylvanians the Republican ticket was committed to an all-of-the-above energy strategy that included coal. Pennsylvania is a major coal-mining state, but the industry has been hammered by a combination of cheap natural gas prices and regulations from the Obama administration.
“On day one of a Trump-Pence administration, the war on coal comes to an end,” Pence said. “Trump digs coal.”
The GOP vice presidential nominee added that Trump would renegotiate NAFTA. “We’re going to have free trade … but American trade is going to once again mean American jobs first.”
Pence, who took the stage in Youngwood waving a Terrible Towel in homage to the nearby Pittsburgh Steelers, will campaign out west in Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado on Wednesday. He shared the stage with Trump earlier Tuesday, before the GOP nominee headed to Wisconsin.
