Under President Barack Obama, Planned Parenthood went from receiving $330 million a year of taxpayer money to receiving $538.5 million in 2012. Most agencies receiving federal money as supposed to keep accurate records of where and for what those funds are being used.
Planned Parenthood of Texas had to repay the government $4.3 million last summer when it was learned, thanks to a whistleblower, that they had made fraudulent Medicaid claims totally over $30 million.
Casey Mattox, an attorney with Alliance Defending Freedom says his organization has found many discrepancies and questionable billing practices in various Planned Parenthood affiliates. After the settlement in Texas, he said:
“Federal and state auditors and investigators have specifically tabbed Planned Parenthood affiliates with at least $12.5 million in waste, abuse and ‘fraudulent overbilling’ of taxpayers. Former Planned Parenthood employees and others allege many millions more.”
The General Accounting Office did look into the spending practices of Planned Parenthood in 2010 and found a number of discrepancies that should have raised red flags at that time. This has prompted a number of Washington lawmakers to push the GAO to look into the spending practices of Planned Parenthood. Seventy-two members of Congress signed a letter asking the GAO to launch an audit of the baby killing organization.
Among the congressional leaders of the push to audit Planned Parenthood are Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) and Rep. Diane Black (R-TN). Vitter commented about the audit request saying:
“Planned Parenthood and other organizations who provide abortions are dependent on Uncle Sam, but there is no accounting with what they are actually using the money for.”
For the fiscal year of 2011-2012 it was reported that Planned Parenthood’s budget topped $1.2 billion, 45.2% of which came from federal funding. During that time, Planned Parenthood affiliated clinics performed 333,964 abortions.
It’s appalling that we taxpayers have no say in where our taxes are being spent. To know that half a billion dollars is being used to murder hundreds of thousands of innocent children is revolting and against everything that many of us believe in. Our tax dollars should be used to help Americans live, not be murdered. Without the federal funding, Planned Parenthood would have no option but to close the doors to many of the clinics which would save thousands of innocent lives. If you have never been involved in any other form of political activity before, I would hope and pray that you would at least get active now and push your senator and representative to stop all federal funding of Planned Parenthood.
