A gunman opened fire in the Fort Hood Army base area in central Texas on Wednesday, injuring an unknown number of people, police said, and the base has issued a shelter-in-place order for all personnel there.
It was not immediately clear how many people were injured and the shooter was believed to be at large, according to authorities.
The base was the scene of a shooting rampage in 2009 where a former Army psychiatrist killed 13 people and wounded 32 others.
Authorities advised those on the post to stay away from windows and to keep doors closed and locked.
Central Texas College, which has a Fort Hood campus, ordered an immediate evacuation of all students and staff, and canceled all classes.
