The Ted Cruz campaign announced the candidates resignation Tuesday after Presidential candidate Donald Trump was projected to win the Indiana Republican.
This latest win, following recent victories along the Eastern seaboard, places the hotel mogul within 200 delegates of the needed 1,237 to win the nomination.
“Thank you Indiana, we were just projected to be the winner,” Trump said on Twitter. “We have won in every category. You are very special people — I will never forget!”
Despite campaigning heavily throughout the state and announcing Carly Fiorina as a running mate, Ted Cruz failed to gather a substantial number of votes before finally bowing out.
On the democrat side of the race, Bernie Sanders currently leads Hillary Clinton by 4 percent.
