The buzz continues to build for the Twitter Gulag Defense Network, a grassroots project launched last weekend by Twitter user Todd Kincannon. Using the hashtag #TGDN, the project connects conservative activists and helps Twitter users combat the abusive flag-spam tactics used by some leftists to silence conservative voices.

#TGDN has been trending off and on since Saturday, Jan. 5, and more than 4,000 happy warriors have joined the network. This morning, Kincannon reached out to #TGDN members with his suggestions for staying out of the dreaded Twitter Gulag. His ideas include methods to thwart flag-spam trolls and tips to avoid triggering Twitter’s automatic suspension algorithms.

If you join #TGDN and follow the tips I’m posting, you will be completely immune from #TwitterGulag. Arm yourselves for battle.
Actor Adam Baldwin and others hoped that Kincannon would compile his tips into a single post.
I don’t know how to do all that! RT @adamsbaldwin @ToddKincannon Please put them in one single post for easy access/linkage.
No worries. We’re givers. Ask and you shall receive!
#TGDN #TwitterGulag Tip #1: Train yourself to *never* start a tweet with “@” symbol. If you reply to someone, put a “.” before the first “@”
Algorithms. RT @AdamLozo This is an interesting tip. Why does the @ at the beginning of a tweet make us more vulnerable to the Gulag?
#TGDN #TwitterGulag Tip #2: Never engage with an “egg” account. Ever.
#TGDN #TwitterGulag Tip #3: If someone is harassing you or seems too eager to attack you, just block them. Don’t think twice about it.
#TGDN #TwitterGulag Tip #4: If you’re fighting with a liberal, and his buddies jump in and attack you, ignore them. This is hard for me.
#TGDN #TwitterGulag Tip #5: Create a second account in case your primary account is suspended. Make sure that account joins #TGDN too.
#TGDN #TwitterGulag Tip #5B: Make sure the profile in your second account states that it’s a backup account for your main account.
#TGDN #TwitterGulag Tip #5C: Use the same avatar and background for your secondary account that you use for your primary account.
#TGDN #TwitterGulag Tip #6: Before engaging an attacker, check to see how many followers they have. If under 100, totally ignore them.
#TGDN #TwitterGulag Tip #7: Also, before engaging an attacker, check to see how many tweets they have. If under 1,000, totally ignore them.
Many of Kincannon’s followers were grateful for the advice.
I’ve learned more about twitter in the last 15 minutes than I thought I knew in the last year, thanks to @ToddKincannon #TGDN

If you don’t listen to @ToddKincannon #tgdn tips and advice, do you also like hitting your head on a brick wall?
But at least one was skeptical:
@ToddKincannon I understand. Does it also make it so your tweet is seen in all your followers’ timeline?
@karmacamilleon1 @ToddKincannon No the respondee wouldn’t see the Tweet, if u followed his advice. He’s on the wrong track w/some of these
Kincannon has a message regarding any naysayers out there.
Ignore people telling you I’m wrong with some of my #TwitterGulag avoidance tips. They’re either misinformed or trying to mislead. #TGDN
My #TGDN #TwitterGulag tips are the dodge, dip, duck, dive, and dodge of Twitter dodgeball. Learn them. Follow them. Go to #WAR with them.
