The Imperial President has seized another chunk of our freedom.
FOX News reported Thursday that the Department of Housing and Urban Development “is imposing a new rule that would allow the feds to track diversity in America’s neighborhoods and then push policies to change those it deems discriminatory.
The policy is called, ‘Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing.’ It will require HUD to gather data on segregation and discrimination in every single neighborhood and try to remedy it.”How does HUD propose to do that? According to HUD, by using their “discrimination database” to require changes to zoning laws, housing finance policy, infrastructure planning and transportation to alleviate alleged discrimination and segregation. All that is necessary is an allegation that such social no-no’s exist.
Who gets to decide what is discrimination or segregation? Or whether it is true? Why, the Obama’s regime does, of course. And Trayvon Martin’s daddy-in-spirit has been proven to be a completely objective authority on such matters, hasn’t he?
Like most of the government’s power grabs, there are no specifics on how AFFH is to be handled. If the Affordable Care Act is any guide, this is more of the same: “(AFFH) does not prescribe or enforce specific policies.” It is currently in a 60-day comment period but the rule has been added in the Federal Register.
According to FOX News, Ed Pinto of the American Enterprise Institute insists that “this smacks of ‘utopian idealism’”:
“This is just the latest of a series of attempts by HUD to social engineer the American people… It started with public housing and urban renewal, which failed spectacularly back in the 50’s and 60’s. They tried it again in the 90’s when they wanted to transform house finance, do away with down payments, and the result was millions of foreclosures and financial collapse.”
There are also fears that HUD will heighten its strong-arm tactics, filing lawsuits against counties, towns, and communities across the nation. Rob Astorino, the Westchester County Executive, was quoted: “What (the people running AFFH) are trying to do is to say discrimination and zoning is the same thing. They are not… Zoning… protects what can and can’t be built in a neighborhood.”
HUD Secretary, Shaun Donovan, unleashed the AFFH mandate in July to the NAACP. Donovan said that a person’s opportunity in life is governed by zip code: “Unfortunately, in too many of our hardest hit communities, no matter how hard a child or her parents work, the life chances of that child, even her lifespan, is determined by the zip code she grows up in.”
In order to gain what he wants, Donovan reverts to the liberal playbook. No matter how ridiculous, dogma will be replace logic. The truth is that for HUD it is less about “zip codes” than it is about the acquisition of power.
HUD has taken community organizing nationwide and no one is immune. Call AFFH what it is — Obama’s recreation of America.
