A photographer captured a time-lapse video of the Chicago River being dyed green for the city’s annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
Peter Tsai posted a video to YouTube showing a time-lapse of the river turning green Saturday as seen from the Hyatt Chicago hotel.
“An annual tradition in Chicago, the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers turn the Chicago River green each year using a secret orange powder that turns bright green in the water,” Tsai wrote in the video’s description.
This year’s greening of the river reportedly required about 45 pounds of vegetable dye.
