Shopping? Black Friday Deals, Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy & More
The Black Friday avalanche is in its final stages as retailers release their final deals.
If you’ve seen my last three breakdowns you’ll know there are a few deals to be had on the latest phone, laptop and smart home tech. But, of those categories, which are the top 20 deals worth your money?
Check out my picks below and, if you missed them, my recent breakdowns for Google Home Vs. Amazon Echo, Apple Macbooks and the iPhone 8.
Phones
iPhone SE $99 Target - a steady discount that appeared early in the Black Friday giveaways. You’ll find a similar deal at Walmart.
iPhone 6 32GB - $129 Walmart - another early deal that’s still one of the best.
Samsung is offering up to $400 off the Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8 and when an old phone is traded in. As ever, be sure to check the fine print. It’s likely that to get the full trade-in value you’ll need to swap a fairly new device.
A few places are offering $200 off the Galaxy S8, or a $300 gift card (Target and Walmart) when a contract is taken out. Check out NewEgg and Best Buy’s $200 off deals. Target is also offering a $250 gift card with an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus purchase.
Walmart also has $200 straight off the Galaxy S7, which brings it down to a very reasonable $299 for a last gen device.
Smart speaker
Both of Google’s smart speakers have been discounted this Black Friday. Home is getting a $50 discount, dropping the retail price to $79.
Home Mini gets a smaller $20 discount, but that’s a $5 increase on last week’s deal. You’ll find similar deals at virtually every major electronics store.
Amazon’s growing range of products are also getting some hefty discounts. The Echo Plus gets a $30 discount ($119.99), whilst the Echo Dot and Echo are both down is down $20.
But the real smart speaker discounts are the third party devices. Sony’s stab at smart home tech - the S50G (with Google Assistant built in) - comes with a huge $70 off. And the Cortana powered Harman Kardon Invoke has an even bigger $100 discount at the Microsoft store.
The JBL Link - with Google Assistant - has a reasonable $50 off, too.
Laptops
Newegg has a hefty price drop on the first generation Surface Book with 45% off, bringing the cost down to $799. A good price for one of the best-looking Windows laptops on the market. I’ve raved about every Surface Book I’ve tested, so you’re in good hands here, especially at that price. Although you will encounter Surface specific bugs, which have been persistent.
B&H has some good discounts on the entire Macbook range. The 15.4-inch Macbook Pro (2016) model has $600 off, retailing at $1799, which is one the best I’ve seen so far. The higher spec Macbook Pro (i7, Touchbar, 16GB RAM) is also a hefty $700 off, bringing the price down to $2099.
Microsoft’s store has some impressive discounts on its Surface range (amongst other products) that are worth looking at. This Surface Pro bundle, which comes with a Type Cover is $329 off and starts today (the 23rd).
If you’re looking for deals on the iPhone X and Google Pixel 2, you’ll find some here. But be warned, they’re not very good. If you do decide to pick up the latest phone from either Apple or Google, read these buying guides first.
