Truman State University: Robert Spencer Set to Speak, Left-Fascists Call for Violence

Robert Spencer,

It’s what they do.

Whoever said that fascism would come to America in the guise of anti-fascism got it right. The College Republicans chapter at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri invited me to speak Thursday. Last week, this invitation came to the attention of a young Kirksville resident who called herself Bella Waddle; Waddle tweeted (her tweets are now protected, but I was able to capture plenty of them in time): “Truman’s College Repubs are hosting anti-Muslim extremist Robert Spencer on the 13th. I think y’all know what to do… #bashthefash,” followed by an emoji of a fist. A friend of Waddle, identified on Twitter only as Sarah, got the point immediately, and tweeted in reply: “PUNCH! HIS! FACE!”

Another individual with “BlackLivesMatter” as part of his Twitter bio voiced indignation at the Islamophobic establishment, even though this was a private event, not sponsored by the university: “@TrumanState should be ashamed for hosting a bigoted extremist like @jihadwatchRS. Solidarity to those defying this.” Bella Waddle herself was determined to show defiance, tweeting several days before the event: “We’re organizing to make sure he knows he isn’t welcome here. And apparently he’s heard about it.”

Yes, Bella, I have. And after threats to Bella went up in the comments field of my website Jihad Watch – planted there, I strongly suspect, by someone who opposes my speaking at Truman State, in hopes that they would discredit me – Truman State University police heard about it as well. They contacted me, wanting information about the threatening comments (which I deleted as soon as I saw them). I asked them what they were doing about the threats of violence against me. They did not reply.

Meanwhile, a petition went up that now has 647 signatures, calling on Truman State to cancel my appearances. The comments are full of charges that I am a Nazi, a fascist, a liar, etc., without, of course, a shred of substantiation. Being a Left-fascist means never having to prove your claims. If someone is on the Enemies List, if someone is branded as “right-wing,” that’s good enough for these self-righteous and thoroughly indoctrinated Leftists. Proof? That’s for conservatives.

The violence and brutalization of political opponents is a new phenomenon in American politics, but it is becoming increasingly common, and it has a historical antecedent: the Nazi Brownshirts. In The Coming of the Third Reich, historian Richard J. Evans explains how, in the early days of National Socialist Germany, Stormtroopers (Brownshirts) “organized campaigns against unwanted professors in the local newspapers [and] staged mass disruptions of their lectures.”

To express dissent from Nazi positions became a matter of taking one’s life into one’s hands. The idea of people of opposing viewpoints airing their disagreements in a civil and mutually respectful manner was gone. One was a Nazi, or one was silent (and fearful).

That is just the kind of public arena that the Left has been trying to bring to the United States for years — particularly on college campuses. But I’ll be at Truman State University today anyway, facing down the fascists, unless the university cancels my event at the last minute. That is, however, unlikely, as university administrators have already attempted to appease the Left-fascists by scheduling a lecture by Faizan Syed of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations, right before mine.

I plan on attending Faizan Syed’s talk. I doubt he will attend mine, although he is most welcome to do so, and indeed, I invite him to do so. I fully expect that I will either be prevented from attending his speech, or will be subjected to insults and abuse while I am there. If he attends my lecture, he will be welcomed and no one will treat him with anything but courtesy. I also expect that his lecture will be filled with deceptions, distortions, half-truths, and ad hominem attacks against me. My address, by contrast, will be carefully buttressed with specific citations from the Qur’an and Hadith, and contain no ad hominems at all.

I also hereby invite Syed to a public discussion or debate of the relevant issues, either at Truman State University or at any other venue. He will either contemptuously refuse or ignore the invitation altogether. This is because Leftists today, and their Islamic supremacist allies such as the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations, wish only to smear, demonize and marginalize those whom they hate. They have no interest in honest, equitable discussion and dialogue. That should tell the students at Truman State University something. However, students today are so used now to that kind of treatment being meted out to those who are dissenters from the establishment line that they will probably welcome it, and cheer Syed on.

If the Left-fascists at Truman State succeed in beating me up, will it prove them right? No. Will it demonstrate their moral superiority? Quite the contrary. Will it stop me from speaking? Absolutely not. And even if they kill me, others will keep on telling the truths they hate. They can’t kill us all, although I fully expect that in the long run they will try.
