Biker group vowing ‘wall of meat’ to block protesters hopes for ‘peaceful transition’

The leader of a pro-Trump motorcycle group that recently vowed to form a “wall of meat” to keep inauguration protesters at bay said Monday they’re anticipating a smooth transition.

“We are anticipating a peaceful transition of power,” Bikers for Trump founder and leader Chris Cox said Monday on “Fox & Friends.” “We don’t have any reason to believe that we’re going to have any problems.”

Cox said that Bikers for Trump is a “patriotic” group ready to protect all Americans during inauguration weekend and that its roughly 200,000 members trust that law enforcement can do the job.

However, he told Fox News a day earlier: “In the event that we are needed, we will certainly form a wall of meat. We’ll be shoulder-to-shoulder with our brothers. And we’ll be toe-to-toe with anyone who’s going to break through police barricades.”

The group is one of about two dozen that applied for a federal permit for Inauguration Day on Friday. It has been granted space at John Marshall Park, along the Inaugural Parade route on Pennsylvania Avenue.

The group formed about 15 months ago and became a familiar sight on the 2016 presidential campaign trail, particularly during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July, when members went toe-to-toe with anti-Trump protesters.

Cox suggested that “times have changed” since Cleveland and the other angry protests of last year, particularly those in Arizona and Chicago.

Bikers, more than a few guys at work are bikers, some, I suspect, at least know someone from the more notorious biker gangs. But you know what, these guys at work are good people, concerned about their families, decent to their coworkers.

Years ago, my wife and I were at a bar, and a guy seated across from us looked like a guy from work. I leaned over to my wife and said “I think that guy works at my plant, but I’m not used to seeing him with his clothes on”. She got a laugh out of it. It’s a double entendre, a lot of guys I only see at the locker room, unfortunately they are sans clothing. 24 years of this, I yearn for privacy. But what I really meant is that I was used to seeing him wearing the extensive personal protective equipment; known as PPE; required at work. Not seeing him with his clothes on referred to this PPE, in his street clothes he looked different.

If you knew the bikers that I do at work, you know they have a strong potential for good, they have camaraderie; with other bikers, with other coworkers; they have family, many are Christian, and they are patriotic. The one guy, the “biker”, sent me this video in early September 2016. I watched him, from afar, as he watched this video on his cell phone, head down, silently, except for encouraging me to watch it.

Video Link: 9-11 Sounds of Silence Tribute by Steve A. I’m sorry to say, this is the first time I saw it, teary eyed, I had to find the link in my saved text messages. This same man, just after September 11th, 2001, found a U.S. flag insert in the local newspaper, it says “This is our flag, be proud of it, people died for it.” He placed it on the poster board at work where it has been since then.

I suspect many of us aren’t used to seeing people with their street clothes on. We may see leather jackets and at times scruffy appearances, but I’ve seen the depth that gives me faith in their offer, and social justices warriors they’re not, many of these guys circulate in tougher circles, and work rough, dangerous, and demanding jobs. My brother was a biker, traveling back and forth from Chicago on his Harley. He gone now but was a great person, I know he lived the rougher side of life, but had the other side as well, he loved his family, in his way, and instilled a love for this country into his long grown children, the males of which served in the military, were in Iraq, and have a strong commitment to America. Oh, and my nephew, my brother’s son, is a biker too.

To the bikers for their offer on inauguration day, Godspeed.
